Honda Civic or Honda Accord: Which Model is Right for You?

If you’re looking for a solid everyday driver, it’s likely you’re considering the Honda Civic and the Honda Accord. These two models both offer fuel-efficient powertrain options and spacious interiors. The model that will suit you best depends entirely on your day-to-day needs. Here, we outline features of both the Civic and the Accord to help make your decision easier.

Performance & efficiency

Whether you’re looking for more power or better fuel efficiency, the Civic and the Accord offer a range of powertrain options.

The Civic comes with two engine options.
  • A standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which produces 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque. It gets combined 33 mpg.*
  • An optional turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine which puts out 174 horsepower and 167 lb-ft of torque with the manual transmission or 162 lb-ft of torque with the CVT. It gets a combined EPA-estimated fuel-efficiency rating of 36 mpg.*

The Accord offers three engine options.
  • A standard 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 192 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque. It can get up to a combined 33 mpg.*
  • An optional 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that produces 252 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque, while boasting a combined 27 mpg.*
  • A hybrid powertrain that puts out 143 horsepower and 129 lb-ft of torque. It gets a combined 48 mpg.*

Each of these models offers fuel-efficient and powerful engine options. If you’re someone with a long commute, something like the Accord Hybrid might suit; if you like a bit of oomph under the hood, consider the Civic’s turbocharged 1.5-liter engine. It’s important that you think about your needs and then choose the engine that suits you best.

Interior space

Whether you opt for the Civic or the Accord, you will be able to seat up to five passengers inside your sedan. These two models do differ when it comes to interior space, though. The Accord is a midsize sedan, whereas the Civic is a compact sedan. This size difference is noticeable in the interior.

The Civic offers 37.4 inches of legroom in the rear seat, while also boasting 15.1 cubic feet of cargo space in its trunk. This is ample room to stretch out, though the Accord does offer more with 40.4 inches of rear legroom and 16.7 cubic feet of cargo space in the trunk. So, depending on just how much space you need, either model could suit you.
